The adjusted net scoring average considers the differences in handicap strokes awarded at different GTGP events.  For each event, actual handicap strokes are awarded based on the tees played and on the event format.  In events where the course ratings are lower, for example, the net scores tend to be lower.  Similarly, in best ball events less than full handicap indexes are used.

The adjusted net scoring average eliminates these factors by computing net scores on a normalized basis.  This average represents a (fictitious) situation where all rounds are played  using full (100%) handicap index on a course with a course rating of 72.0.
