The adjusted gross scoring average considers the differences in difficulty associated with playing different tees.  A player playing the Back Tees at a particular course is expected to score higher than if he had played the Middle Tees, for example.  Similarly, some courses are inherently more difficult than others.

The adjusted gross scoring average eliminates these factors by computing normalized gross scores.  This average represents a (fictitious) situation where all rounds are played on a course with a course rating of 72.0 and a slope of 113.
