General
-
Have fun. This is
friendly competition!
-
Matches are to be
scheduled by mutual agreement of the two players and should
generally be played outside of standard GTGP stroke play
events.
-
Matches must be
completed by the deadlines stated on the
schedule page.
-
Matches may be played
at any mutually agreeable golf course.
-
Players may play the
same or different tees. Handicap adjustments are made
for the tees played in the same manner as for regular GTGP
events.
-
Handicap strokes are to
be given to the player with the higher
Tournament Handicap. To determine the number of
strokes, take the difference in Tournament Handicaps of the
two players and distribute that number of strokes to
the player with the higher handicap, starting with the #1
handicap hole.
Member handicaps on the day of the match shall be used.
If you need assistance determining handicap strokes for a
match, send the club an email a day or two ahead of time.
-
USGA match play rules
apply, with GTGP local rules modifications.
-
Per USGA Handicap
guidelines, match play scores must be posted for handicap
purposes. If a hole is not completed, the player must record
the most probable score that he or she would have scored. If
a hole is not played at all, a score of net par should be
recorded.
-
Individual match
results must be reported to GTGP by email within three days
of completion.
-
Player registration fee
of $20 goes into a prize pool, of which 75% is awarded to
the overall champion and 25% to the overall runner up.
The entire entry fee is paid out in winnings (i.e. there is
no club overhead for this event). Winners may elect to
collect their winnings in the form of club credit so as not
to jeopardize their amateur status under USGA rules.
Preliminary
Round
-
Group assignments will be drawn at random at the end of
the registration period.
-
In three player groups,
each player plays each other player twice in a round robin
format (four matches per player). In four player
groups, each player plays each other player once (three
matches per player).
-
The order of the
matches within a group does not matter, and is up to the
members of the group based on individual schedules and
availability.
-
Match wins count as one
point. Halved matches count as a half point.
-
In the event of a tie
among two or three players within a group after the
completion of all matches, the first tiebreaker will be
head-to-head results and the second tiebreaker will be
fewest holes played in all matches won. Therefore, it
is important that when results are sent to GTGP that you
include the margin of victory (e.g. Joe beat Alice 3 and 2,
meaning that the match was completed on the 16th hole).
In breaking ties among three players, once a player has been
eliminated a new tiebreaking procedure is applied among the
two remaining players.
Bracket
Rounds
-
The winner of each
group in the preliminary round (based on total points and
appropriate tiebreakers) gets to compete in the bracket
rounds. Match assignments are
based on a predetermined
bracket.
-
Ties must be broken.
If the golf course allows play of extra holes, then players
should play extra holes of sudden death. If the golf
course does not allow this, the players must decide how to
break the tie (putting contest, match of cards, flip of
coin, etc.)
