What's New for 2008?

The GTGP Board of Directors has been hard at work this off-season seeking out ways to improve GTGP competition for the 2008 season.  Thanks to feedback from the members throughout the year, the Board had many great suggestions to consider.  Although most elements will carry forward from the 2007 season, a few important changes for 2008 are noted below:

  • 2008 GTGP Schedule/Event Formats

  • The 2008 GTGP schedule includes four new courses, including regional standout Seaview Marriott-Bay.  Other new courses include Inniscrone, Green Pond, and Rancocas.  Several courses such return after a one- or two-year absence, including Glen Mills, Broad Run, RiverWinds, Raven's Claw, and Island Green.  At the same time, several favorites from our first three seasons remain on the schedule.

  • The GTGP Tour Championship, a season-ending 36-hole stroke play event, moves to Lederach and Island Green.  Additionally, the purse has been increased to a total of $20,000,000.  Of this, $5,000,000 will be awarded for each weekend's play, with a bonus $10,000,000 purse awarded for the total 36-hole competition.

  • The duration of the GTGP season schedule has been reduced slightly to 22 regular season events.  The season still runs from April to October, but the number of events during the summer months has been reduced.  Additionally, courses on the schedule are more centrally located relative to the membership.

  • The 2008 GTGP schedule places a higher priority on individual play, with a larger percentage of the events using an Individual Net format.

  • As three-time defending champion, GTGP will travel to the 2008 Mason-Dixon Cup against the Washington Wormburners Golf Club.    The 2008 Cup will be a 2-day (overnight) event at a location to be determined, with the 2-player better ball competition on Saturday afternoon and the individual net singles matches on Sunday morning.  Qualifying provisions for the Mason-Dixon Cup team remain the same as for 2007, with the team being selected from the Top 8 players on the final GTGP Money List, and each of the players with the lowest ten Adjusted Net and lowest ten Adjusted Gross scores who have not already qualified.

  • The inaugural season-long GTGP Match Play Round-Robin Championship debuts in April, with entrants guaranteed at least three matches in a round-robin format against other members.  This informal event will be run through the club but played on your own time.  The winner earns 75% of the prize pool, which is expected to be as much as $400!

  • New Local Rules

  • A few local rules have been added or modified for 2008.  The most important new rule requires players to play a provisional ball and prohibits returning to the original spot to play after losing a ball or hitting a ball out of bounds.  Additionally, a clarification has been made to the embedded ball rule when "Lift, Clean, and Place" is in effect.  For more information, please see the Local Rules page.
